I'm gonna respectfully disagree... Mullens will be our QB2 and Rypien is not a good backup. He was the Rams QB2 last year and was so bad in his one start they released him after the game. He's thrown 9 interceptions in 4 games and in that small sample size was abysmal. He played well in the preseason, but so did Jaren Hall.

Mullens plays way too aggressively but he has been able to execute the Shanahan and O'Connell offense well enough for a backup. He also doesn't have a strong arm (like Rypien) and that gets him in trouble, but the difference is that Mullens has had some staying power. He lasted for a few years as the 49ers backup and is going on Year 3 here. Rypien is more of a journeyman - some are citing his experience with McVay, but he didn't even last a full season there. If he were that good, he would still be with the Rams backing up Stafford.
