Purple Pain's Pick 4 - 2017 Edition

To continue PotGoblin's Pick 4, here we go with this year's edition.

For both new and old players, here are the rules and prizes.

Prizes: 

Regular season winner: a free Vikings ticket to a game of your choice next season (as well as the opportunity to buy a ticket right next to it to bring a guest)
Postseason winner: replica Lombardi trophy with your name or username on it OR a Vikings plaque of some sort

When the time comes, I'll be in touch with the winners to discuss options. So far, we know the (home) opponents for the '18 season are:

As far as postseason winners, I'll provide a few options for the replica trophies and plaques, and the winner will be allowed to choose his/her favorite.

Here are the rules for Purple Pain's Pick 4. They are simple enough, but I assure you this is a fun game with plenty of surprises along the way.

Rules:

Each week, you'll find the appropriate thread and post your picks. Your four picks will consist of the following:

Game 1: Lock of the Week. - 1pt
Game 2 : Divisional Matchup - 2pts
Game 3 : Upset Special - 3pts
Game 4 : Wildcard - 1pt

Max weekly score - 7pts

Explanations of these picks: 

Lock of the week - This is the winner you are most sure of.
Divisional Matchup - You must pick a winner in a divisional matchup (these will be in bold and in red to help you choose).
Upset Special - Upset special is the most challenging - and, therefore, worth the most points. This is where you pick an underdog. These will be underlined so you know the options you can choose from. I will choose a few games each week to be eligible. Eligibility could be because of the spread, current records, recent history, etc. They'll be picked using a variety of factors.
Wildcard - This is any game of your choosing. 

How should your posts look as you post your weekly picks? Example here:

Lock: Falcons over Bears
Divisional: Cowboys over Giants
Upset: Browns over Steelers
Wildcard: Vikings over Saints

Please, everyone get in on the action! It's more fun when all of the board members play. Ya know ... trash talking, bragging rights, and so on. And you're trying to win a Vikings ticket next to me, so, ya know ... that's super motivating. LOL. But seriously, let's all play this year and have some fun! 

Also, share this game elsewhere (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to bring more people in.

I think lock of the week should only be 1 point. That's the easiest pick. The wildcard game could probably stay at 1 point too since that would be the next easiest pick. Just my 2 cents.

And how bout some sort of weekly tie breaker so we don't end up with 5 winners every week? Maybe predicting how much your lock will win by, so in the event of a tie the closest would win?

Maybe make Upset Special worth 4 pts to encourage more people to take the risk?

Honestly though, if I ever go to the waiting migraine that is US Bank Stadium, nobody would be beside me but you Mel. So long as I don't have to drive to Iowa and get you.

We can change the lock to be 1 point. That makes sense. The most weekly points possible ... a touchdown. 

As far as a tiebreaker, I don't see a need for that. We aren't doing weekly prizes. Y'all are lucky I am putting up $150-$200 of my own money to continue this game so the winner gets more than bragging rights. 

So, yes ... everyone needs to play and invite some others!

After a full 17 weeks it would be unlikely that 2 or more people would be tied,and if they are then sort it out in the playoffs.

We need weekly winners. You can't brag about your lucky guesses if 6 other people were equally lucky with their guesses.

If you guys want to pitch in for weekly prizes, then we can do a tiebreaker. Otherwise it's just more work. Reignman, you're doing the scoring. Do you really wanna do that each week? It complicates the game as well as the scoring. I don't see why the weekly winner/prizes is an issue. It's going to be commonplace that there are weekly ties. So what? Bragging rights belong to the season winner and playoff winner. Who cares if you have a good week? Have 17 good weeks, then we'll talk. lol.

Your total points for MNF is a good tiebreaker idea, but weekly winners are irrelevant to overall points/final standings. So unless there are weekly prizes, why do it?

just trying to offer a solution to a perceived problem.  I'm not the one the brought it up.  It doesn't matter to me and I won't lose any sleep over it.
