I've got mixed feelings on this and its not about the talent. The Wilfs are looking at it as butts in seats not wins and trophies that's all they really are about. Kirk was no longer a real draw so the next flavor of the month is JJ. No doubt JJ is a great talent, but there's never been a single WR that could will his team to a SB ring.
I'm not real impressed that JJ is looking north of 35 mill and wouldn't take the 30 already on the table. To me that's too much for any WR and I don't care what the cap rises to. I don't care about market value or any of that. To me its bad enough for a QB.
I like the approach they took in FA signing productive players that fill rolls that don't break the bank, but aren't flat out stop gap signing. They're all hard nosed players that produced.
Just like I feel its important to target the QB they want in the draft and pay the price via draft picks vs cash, they have no real intrinsic value like a monster contract does. To me it all depends on the value you could get and at this point JJ's value will never be bigger. I'm about 99.9% sure the Wilfs are looking at it from butts in seats profit vs wins so that means JJ ain't going any place, unless JJ just gets too much diva going. What if JJ wants out or is asking for 45 mill a year fully guaranteed. At that point you have to move on.
The Chiefs with Hill is a prime example. They still got the win vs his team and the ring. I'm never going to be convinced a WR is worth that much cap. The other issue is you have to pay the rest of the young group and I'd rather invest in other positions. Now fans are excited about a rookie QB so that would take some ofcthe attention off a JJ trade if that's what needs to be done. Just like QB this draft is pretty talent heavy at WR. Let's just say for argument sake the trade allows Minnesota to get the QB they desire and also fill the WR slot with a top 10 pick and get some day 2 picks.
Let's say Arizona or the Patriots. Arizona has the QB in place, but the Patriots seemed like they wanted a high profile WR more then a QB, but anyway That will get Minnesota the QB they want with the 3rd or 4th overall pick. I'm sure there would be more day 2 picks or swaps of picks, but just trying to keep it easy and clean. Minnesota would still have the fire power to move back up into the top 10 and get their choice of DL WR or OL or stand pat and land two more legit players at 11 and 23. I think they'd also be able to get a 2nd rd pick this year as well.
If they could get the QBOTF and a total of 4 picks in the first two rounds it would be real hard for me not to take the deal.
